Custom Programs and SAILING STRAIGHT 

LCCSC is host to many groups throughout the Burlington community. We are happy to create custom programs to accommodate your youth group, camp, office, church group or any group of people who are interested in learning how to sail and enjoy Lake Champlain. 

Please call us with your ideas and budget. Many of these custom programs are assisted or made possible by the McConnell Scholarship Fund.

SAILING STRAIGHT: a youth development program teaching teamwork, leadership and self-reliance through the medium of sailing
SAILING STRAIGHT was developed after seeing the positive effect that sailing had on several groups of at-risk youth that came to sail with LCCSC in 1999.  Though the program will focus on programs and organizations that work with at-risk teens, all teenagers are welcome to participate. 

Each group's experience will be unique. The group's leader will be asked to meet with LCCSC's staff to discuss that group's goals, needs and current projects/discussions such as working as and within a team, being aware of one's surroundings and taking turns acting as captain or boat leader. During the sail, activities onboard will address those needs. After the sail, the entire group including instructors and sailors will discuss the sail within the context of the goals previously laid down. 

We are excited about this program as it is not simply a sports program, nor is it just a program for at-risk youth. It is a hands-on youth development program that not only teaches skills that teens need to lead a successful and fulfilling life, but also skills helping them acquire a sport that they can do forever.

Our long term goal for this program is to have participants come back to work at LCCSC helping instructors and teaching their peers.
