The Northern
Vermont High School Sailing Team
LCCSC is host to the NVHSST. This is a
community-wide sailing program open to any high school student
in good standing at a public or private high school in
Chittenden County.
Practices are held in the Team's new (old)
fleet of 8 420's.
Practices include boathandling,
team racing, and fleet racing through on the water drills and
off the water discussions. Special events such as guest
speakers, slide shows and opportunities to try other boats are
held throughout the year.
All sailors are welcome whatever their sailing
or racing experience. Any sailors, parents or school
administrators who are interested in learning more, please call
(802-864-2499) or e-mail (info@LCCSC,org)
Attention all sailors: In order to cover
expenses involved with maintaining the High School Sailing Team,
the following fees will be required for sailors to participate.
**Scholarships are available so that this fee is not a
prohibitive factor in a student participating in these programs.

Sail it.

Sailing Team coach:
Team Racing Rules to
Remember
1. When you do not know what to do, 80-90% of
Team racing is fleet racing, so SAIL FAST.
2. If your team is in
a winning combination, SPEED UP THE RACE, you want it to end
just like it is; if your team is losing the race, SLOW THE RACE
DOWN, you want a chance to change your combination.
3. Coming
around the windward or jibe marks, FIRST BOAT HIGH, SECOND BOAT
LOW.
4. When you and a teammate round windward or jibe in 2 and
3; 2 goes high, 3 goes low.
5. When you are going upwind and
your team is 1 and 2 in pairs with opponents 3 and 4; 1 and 2
should try to keep pairs balanced going up the beat. By doing
this, if a big shift comes in, you are not left with a 1 and 3
and the other team with a 2 and 4.
6. When doing a speed
passback, be sure that the skipper of the windward boat is looking
at or forward of the shrouds of the leeward boat before luffing
the jib. Also, you MUST HAVE YOUR MAIN IN AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE.
