Adult Dinghy/Keelboat Learn to Sail and
Intermediate Sailing
No age limit for adults who want to finally learn or relearn
the amazing sport of sailing. Adult Beginner and Intermediate courses are
offered in the Hobie 1-14 or Lido 14 dinghy or in one of LCCSC's Sonar keelboats.
The goal of a beginner class is
to teach you all aspects of basic sailing and safety so that you are certified
to come back and rent one of our boats alone or with another lucky person. At
the completion of the course, you will receive a US
Sailing Small Boat Certification Book with the skills you have learned
checked off by your instructor.
The intermediate classes cover
advanced boathandling, sailing theory, navigation. These classes are tailored to
the sailors. You decide what your goals are, and we will do our best to help you
accomplish them.
Keelboat
Seminars: Have
you taken a keelboat class before? If so, these new seminars are designed
to keep you interested in sailing while allowing you to develop specific
skills in a fun and informal atmosphere. Every
other week we will offer a different topic ranging from anchoring to
reading charts. On the water skill building will be followed by a
relaxing evening sail on Lake Champlain. This is a great way to
stay in touch with your classmates, meet local sailors, and get on the
water. These programs will
be on Friday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00. Call us or check the
website to find out what seminars will be offered and to register!
Mini-Refresher:
If it has been a while since
you took the Dinghy Class and you would like to brush up on your skills
with one of our instructors you should sign up for a
Mini-Refresher. Spend an hour on the water in a one-on-one format
with an instructor and you'll be ready to hit the water with
confidence.
Wondering whether you should take a DINGHY or
KEELBOAT class?
If you anticipate renting with us often or are brand new to
sailing, we recommend the dinghy class. You will sail with one other sailor and
will always be actively sailing the boat. You will learn first hand how to right
a capsized boat and understand the implications of weight placement. You will be
close to the water and feel how the waves and wind affect the boat immediately.
The loads on the lines are less than on a keelboat though you do get wetter. If
you have sailed a little before and know you like bigger boats, you are
anticipating buying a small daysailer or enjoy a much less physical sailing
experience, keelboats are for you. The courses are run with a max of 4 people on
the boat together with the instructor. You will have a chance to pull all the
lines and perform all the tasks of rigging and sailing though not necessarily
all the time. Alternately you will have time to observe what others are doing.
Because of higher loads on lines in a bigger boat, you will learn how to handle
them as well as another difference; how to leave and return to a mooring.

Adult Beginner/Intermediate Dinghy Classes are 12 hours total
in 4 x 3 hour sessions. Minimum enrollment is 4, maximum 12. The cost is: $160
per sailor.
